Yindyamarra Yambuwan

The film Yindyamarra Yambuwan: A film in Wiradjuri Language is drawn from three years of conversations with Wiradjuri Elders, Yindyamarra bala Yambuwan – “Yindyamarra is everything” was the sentiment shared by every Wiradjuri Elder involved. The film is a collaboration with a number of senior Elders particularly Aunty Flo Grant and Dr Uncle Stan Grant Sr AM.

The film is centred on over 20 poems in Wiradjuri language, with video from Wiradjuri country, exploring some of the many aspects of Yindyamarra. Yindyamarra is often translated as respect, but actually it describes the whole Wiradjuri way of Life.

The film is the winner of the 2016 NSW Premier’s Multicultural Media Design Award.

It was a centrepiece in the major exhibition Burambabirra Yindyamarra at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery from Sept to November 2016, along with multiple screens of related documentary and creative videos.

It is available for community screenings and exhibition across Wiradjuri Country.
